Re: Cards to Walter Reed Medical Center
 Jan Farlow of Tarpon Woods has learned from the Walter Reed Medical Center web site that packages, letters, and gifts addressed to "Any Wounded Soldier" or "A Recovering American Soldier" CANNOT BE ACCEPTED.    This is a safety-based policy.  In addition, the U.S. Postal Service will not accept for delivery any mail  so addressed.

Tickets ($5.00 each) are now available for the Christmas Tour of Homes on November 18th from 1 to 4 pm.  They may be obtained only from Beautification Committee members and will be limited to 300.  Members are Mabel Wurst, Maryanna Mc Carthy, Linda Woodworth, Claire Webb, Audry Jung, Carolyn Copley and Joan Kelly.  Following the tour refreshments will be served at the Club House.  Hope to see you there.

GIVE OUR TROOPS A BRIGHTER HOLIDAY by sending care packages to our soldiers in Iraq.  Starting 9/25 there will be collection boxes at the Concierge desks at both parks as well as the Pub and Sandtrap.  If you prefer we are accepting monetary donations for postage.  Christmas Cards are also being collected.  Make our cards to "A SOLDIER".  Include a hand written note and picture if possible.  Put cards in a zip lock bag and place in collection box.  Recommended items include boxes of Christmas cards for soldiers to send out, hard candy, snacks in sold containers (peanuts, beef jerky, small cans of Pringles, cup-o-noodle soup, boxed cookies, warm sox, hot chocolate, coffee powered flavored cream, spices, batteries, games, small holiday decorations.
ALL ITEMS AND CARDS MUST BE IN BY OCTOBER 28TH

The date for the Pine Lakes Summer Entertainment Committee trip to the Hard Rock Casino has been moved from August 21 to August 23rd due to an Indian function at the casino. Those going on the trip will receive an extra $10 in gambling credit. The trip has been sold out but there may be some openings due to the change of date. Call Blanche at the concierge if you are interested.

Very active former resident Jim Walsh will be in Port Charlotte Hospital tomorrow (7-16) for colon surgery and stay for 3-6 days. His wife Ruth thought he would enjoy hearing from Pine Lakers. Lake Fairways, Wake Up America is in need of a vehicle to pull one of their trailers.

They pick up food from local Supermarkets and deliver the food to the Salvation Army and local food kitchens 364 days a year. They deliver over 1,000,000 pounds a food every year to help feed our neighbors in need.
They are looking for a donated or very low price car. They are a 501 C 3 organization so the donation should be Tax Deductible.
